Oil on board using the palette knife, creating a layered impasto. As a runner myself, I really enjoy creating the Runners Series. It’s an opportunity for me to combine two of my passions in life, running and painting. This painting is taken from an amazing picture by friend and ultra-runner Paul Daly, when he competed in the UTMB earlier this year, the gruelling non-stop 170-kilometre Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc. The runners move in silent focus along the rocky mountain trail as dawn rises over Mont Blanc, creating long shadows and an enormous sense of space. The renewed energy that daylight brings in an ultra race is a huge mental and physical boost!
