Description
Spring 2019, I was fortunate enough to spend several months in Escolta Alta Mountain Retreat, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Spain. The almond blossom was just appearing when we arrived in January, and it bloomed gloriously under clear blue skies for at least 6 weeks. It was utterly enchanting! I worked on a series of paintings, inspired by the crisp pinky white colour of the blossom against strong cobalt and turquoise skies. The delicate beauty of the blossom contrasts dramatically with the twisted dark trunks.
This painting is of the entrance to Escolta Alta, the mountain retreat where we stayed!
Oil on Canvas using the palette knife.
