Oil on Board using the palette knife, price includes frame.

Early in 2021 we moved to Sherkin Island in West Cork, and I’m lucky enough to have the most beautiful studio which we actually built ourselves. Big panoramic windows, and filled with light…as an artist friend said, only happy paintings will be painted here!

Outside my studio I’m surrounded by a vast expanse of blue sea and sky, the wild coastline and the vibrant hedgerows…a total immersion in nature. From the busy harbour of Baltimore and the brightly coloured boats, to the solitude of the headlands in winter, there is endless inspiration.

In this painting, the ferry to Sherkin and the ferry to Cape sit ready to board at the pier in Baltimore. It’s a glorious sunny day, and the water is clear and still and almost oily in texture. These are the best days for colour, the blues and greens of the sea are so rich, and the red and orange of the ferries and fishing boats cast magical reflections in the water. The much loved skyline of Sherkin is visible in the distance, and Im heading back.
