Description

Kerry Cows, Killarney National Park 100x70cm

Framed size 1117 x 87cm, price includes substantial 2-piece ivory frame.

Kerry cattle (Irish: Bó Chiarraí or Buinín) are a rare breed of dairy cattle, native to Ireland. They are believed to be one of the oldest breeds in Europe, probably derived from small black cattle brought to Ireland by Neolithic man.
I painted this from a photograph I took on a bright autumn day, Tomes mountain in the distance, the leaves on the trees in full autumn glow, and the Kerry Cows grazing in the foreground. They are a much loved resident of our National Park, and a familiar sight to locals as they walk the routes through the Killarney Demesne.
