Killarney National Park & The River Deenagh in Autumn 120x150cm

This large autumnal painting is part of a series of previously sold works, all of which were done in a similar style. It features a well-known walk in Killarney National Park that crosses over the River Deenagh. The rich and vibrant colors of autumn, such as reds, ambers, and oranges, are in full display.

The artist used an impasto technique with a palette knife, and each leaf in the foreground is almost visible. The painting’s large scale provides the full impact of the autumn light filtering through the trees, casting bright shadows across the paths and fallen leaves. The path’s strong perspective draws the viewer into the painting, creating a feeling of being there.

The artist enjoyed working on such a large scale, as it allowed them to bring movement into the canvas, incorporating diagonals and lines that draw the eye endlessly from one side to the other. The result is a unique work of art that evokes surprise and delight from those who see it, inspiring feelings of happiness and cheerfulness.

Description

This painting continues a series of  large paintings that I started last autumn, all of which are now sold, so it was time to launch into another one!! This one is of a well known walk in Killarney National Park, crossing over the River Deenagh. It is well into autumn, and the colours are in their full autumn glory, reds, ambers and oranges, rich and vibrant!

All the paintings in this series are the biggest I’ve done, and each one took quite some time to carry out.

They are painted with the palette knife, using an impasto technique, and in the foreground each leaf is nearly visible!

I wanted to paint on this scale to give the full impact of the bright autumn light filtering through the autumn trees, casting brightly contrasting shadows across the paths and fallen leaves. The big scale also means the strong perspective of the path leading into the scene has huge impact. You really could walk right into the painting! The other reason I so enjoyed working on such a large scale was the amount of movement I could get into the canvas. I was literally dancing from one side of the canvas to the other, bringing in diagonals and lines drawing the eye endlessly from one side to the other, much as the wind swirls through the woodland trees.

Each of the paintings in the series is truly a unique work of art, and I have seen people gasp with surprise and delight when they see each one, and tell me that they are so uplifting and cheerful to see. It is happiness on canvas.

Please do contact me if you would like to discuss, or look for advice on how it would fit into your home. It’s not actually as big as you might think, and would fit above a table, or on a feature wall in a normal sized home.
