Damaged paintings can be brought back to their original condition. If you have a painting that is damaged in some way perhaps by tears or holes in canvases, water damage, scratches etc it can be restored. I will carefully repair the damaged area, by lining the canvas, then re-touch the paint by matching colour and texture to the original painting, and finally match the sheen, so that there is no dull or shiny spot. This is a stage process which must be done over a few days in the studio.

I can also surface-clean paintings, which may be sooty from hanging near an open fire, or yellowed due to age, or nicotine.

I use Gainsborough products, which are designed for use in the restoration of oil paintings. Many are old European museum formulas, carefully compounded with the finest ingredients, manufactured to the original specifications under scrupulous batch by batch control.

This painting is nearly 100 years old, and was extensively damaged- it had a large tear, mildew and dark brown blotches over the whole surface

 Before

First of al the painting was carefully cleaned to remove the brown spots and restore the original rich colours. The tear was repaired and the paint re-touched to match style, colour and brush-strokes. The whole painting was then re-varnished.
